Vallvidrera House – 2006

The plot is located on the mountainside of Vallvidrera with magnificent views over the city of Barcelona.
The building consists of a main house and a series of annexes built over time that form a courtyard at different levels creating a single set volume. All the empty content between the walls pivotes around a palm tree.With these premises, the project focuses on the modification of the façades by intervening only in the openings without changing their dimensions but extending the glass surface overlapping the wall. The huge silvered and reflective glass windows guarantee optimum climate and comfort in the interior. In their function as mirrors they allow to “insert” the surrounding landscape and sky into the courtyard which emphasizes the spatial quality of the original arrangement of the whole.  Rather than a refurbishment it is a transformation of the buildings that converts the courtyard into a “gallery” of images of the landscape that are projected onto the façades which enclose the courtyard.
